You can learn from life itself. Children are constantly learning, even outside of a curriculum. Listen to how they speak and help them with proper grammar if they make mistakes. Let your child help you with shopping or preparing food to teach them about prices or measurements. They will enjoy the hands on learning and be proud of what they have help to make.

When you are teaching preschoolers at the same time as older children, set aside some individual time for both. Keep an area dedicated to arts and crafts. Ask your older children to help you teach the littler ones. This will allow both groups to learn and will instill confidence.

Kids need to relax once in a while, too. Going to long without a break can result in them getting lost in the material. Give them scheduled breaks for play or relaxation. Both you and your kids will enjoy the break time.

When teaching your children, provide them with hands-on lessons. You could cook foods which apply to the topic they're learning. If learning about Mexico, children could enjoy such favorites as tacos, tostadas and chimichangas. If your theme unit is about WWII then consider visiting a military museum or a historical site. Information is always remembered better when all of the senses are involved.

You need to know when you should give in and make changes. When a particular approach is continually failing, start working on an alternative solution. There's another method out there, you just have to find it. Whether it is a game, movie, or even bringing in a tutor or another parent to help, you have options! Using learning methods that aren't working will only prove to be frustrating.

It's just as important to teach life skills as academic skills. Try to keep a balance of both academics and life skills in your classroom. While most people understand the academic portion, they may not fully grasp the important nature of life skills like driving or gardening. It's possible to teach both! For example, when teaching botany, also teach how to grow a garden.

You need to teach life skills in your classroom as well. Your child can learn more each day than what you will find in any curriculum. You could for instance correct the grammar mistakes you come across throughout your day. Let them help you make dinner and teach them how to measure things. They will learn quickly and make you proud.

Are you going to homeschool more than one kid? Take an assessment of your current disciplinary methods. It will be hard to control the situation if you do not set clear rules and boundaries. You already know what disciplinary questions are likely to arise with each child. Plan your day so that these problems are avoided, allowing each child to progress and not allowing one child to dominate your time and attention.
